DescriptionRhizome glabrous, thin, lustrous, dark reddish-brown; stem 2-3 mm thick, with usually 6 ridges, simple or (usually) with single to several thick branches of differ- ent lengths, top of stem usually lacking branches; first sheath of branches very short, dark brown, the next green, shorter than corresponding sheath of stem; cone long- stalked, obtuse, soon withering.
EcologyWet or moist places, ponds, rare along shores, more common inland. Described from Europe.
