DescriptionCulms 5-10 dm tall, from short subterranean runners; leaf blades 4-8 mm broad, attenuate, often drooping, scabrous in margin and on nerves; panicle 4-10 cm long, 6-10 mm broad; glumes united below middle, tapering to somewhat incurved apex, with green or often dark-violet nerves, glabrous or finely scabrous, and white-pubes- cent on nerves and keel; awn exserted 4—6 mm; anthers 3-3.5 mm long.
EcologyCultivated fields, roadsides; introduced. Described from Europe.
