DescriptionSimilar to A. alpinus, but panicle broader, ovoid, yellowish, villous; glumes long, acute; awn long, geniculate, fixed near base of lemma.
EcologyWet, sandy, and stony soil, chiefly in western Aleutian Islands.

Sheaths very inflated in extreme specimens, upper leaf blades very short and broad. Transgressions to subsp. alpinus occur.
