DescriptionCulms often stout, from stout, creeping, branched rhizome; leaves mostly cauline, up to 1 cm broad, short, erect, flat, acute, scabrous; ligules long, up to 5 mm; panicle contracted, many-flowered, mostly purplish, with short, crowded branches; spikelets linear-lanceolate, short-pedicellated, 1-flowered; glumes lanceolate, slightly unequal, first shorter than lemma; lemma hispidulous, lacking or with indistinct lateral nerves.
EcologyWet meadows, along rivers, on tundra.
