DescriptionUp to 45 cm tall on southern coast, in arctic localities much smaller; culms genicu- late at base, single, from thin, creeping rhizome; ligules 1-2 mm long, toothed; culm leaves short; panicle pyramidal, with most spikelets toward ends of glabrous panicle branches; glumes 3—4.5 mm long; lemmas of about same length as glumes, with fine, somewhat bent awn, fixed at or above middle, reaching to top of lemma; callus hairs about half the length of lemma, or somewhat longer.
EcologyBrackish marshes, wet meadows along seashore, cliffs along sea. Can be expected to occur all along western and northern shore.
