DescriptionDensely caespitose, with persisting old, withered sheaths; culms stout, erect, 9-leaved, naked above; leaves rigid, involute, scabrous at margin; ligules 2 mm long, truncate; branches in pairs, densely scabrous, ascending, in age spreading; spikelets 3-5-flowered, reddish-purple, variegated with yellow, shining; glumes and lemmas indistinctly nerved, faintly ciliate; first glume subacute, the second obtuse or subacute; lemmas obtuse, delicately pilose below, aureate-translucent at apex; keels of palea spinulose above, glabrous below; anthers 0.7-0.9 mm long.
