DescriptionDensely tufted; culm stiff, 0.5-0.7 mm thick, up to 30 cm tall, with numerous, bladeless, brown sheaths at base; leaves filiform, stiff, in small specimens as long as culm, in tall specimens shorter than culm; spike 1-2 cm long, narrow, with brown scales; spikelets with 1 staminate and 1 pistillate flower; stigmas 3.
EcologyDry, mostly calcareous slopes, gravel bars, lichen tundra, up to at least 1,400 meters.
