DescriptionPlant yellowish-green with long, slender, brown, scaly, fibrillose rootstock; culms stout, with scalelike leaves at base, longer above; leaves 3—-4 mm broad, abruptly pointed; spikes 3—4, the apical 1-2 staminate, the lateral pistillate, on long, slender, capillary peduncles, in mature specimens drooping; lower bracts foliaceous, shorter than inflorescence; scales acute, purplish-black, as long as or slightly shorter than perigynia; perigynia elliptic, blackish-tinged, nerveless, abruptly contracted into short, mostly bidentulate beak; stigmas 3.
EcologyMeadows, moist places. Described from northwest Canada 64-69°N.
