DescriptionPlant with long, scaly, purplish-black rhizome and yellowish, tomentose roots; culm triangular; leaves about as long as culm, about 2 mm broad, flat, grayish- green; bracts short, setaceous, with short sheath; spikes 23, the terminal staminate, long-peduncled, the lateral pistillate, drooping, on capillary peduncles, 10-20- flowered; scales broadly ovate, acute or cuspidate, black, with somewhat paler median nerve; perigynia ovate to ovate-lanceolate, slightly shorter than scales, beak- less, in age blackish-brown.
