DescriptionAnnual; light green, in age brownish; stems simple or branching from the base, erect or decumbent; cymes open, dichotomously branched; flowers remote, scattered among branches; perianth leaves green, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, scarious- margined, subulate-tipped, the inner somewhat shorter and broader; capsule chest- nut-brown, shorter than perianth leaves.

Var. ranarius (Perr. & Song.) Hayek (]. ranarius Perr. & Song.) has inner peri- anth leaves obtuse, about as long as capsule; in several localities within area of interest, it occurs with the type variety.
