DescriptionShrub up to 3 meters tall, with glabrous, purplish twigs; leaves elliptical-lanceo- late to oblong or oblong-lanceolate, acute, glabrous, green above, glaucous beneath, with entire or irregularly toothed margin; catkins sessile, or with a few small leaves; bracts blackish, hairy; capsules silky-pubescent; stamens 2; filaments glabrous.
EcologyStream banks, wet forests.

S. phylicifolia described from northern Sweden, subsp. planifolia from Labrador. Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of subsp phylicifolia, Introgression with S. pulchra occurs in the upper Yukon valley.
