Occurs in aquatic forms with very long-petiolated leaves and in terrestrial forms with shorter-petiolated leaves. P. amphibium described from Europe, subsp. laevimarginatum from lake “S. Joannis.” Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of subsp. amphibium.
