DescriptionHighly variable; stem single, straight, thick, up to 50 cm tall, often branched, densely glandular; leaves green above, often red below, broadly lanceolate, oblong to rhombic, thick, petiolated, remotely dentate to nearly entire, glandular-ciliate in margin, glabrous on sides, or, rarely, reddish-pubescent below (var. rufopilosa Hult.); calyx lobes broadly triangular; petals oblong to triangular, greenish to purplish.
EcologyMoist places on tundra, alpine meadows, solifluction soil. Described from the Carpathians in (historical) Hungary.
