DescriptionStem weak, slender, from branching, delicate, subterranean rhizome; stipules ovate, clasplng, connate, glabrous or strigulose; leaves with 7-15 ovate to obovate or oblong-lanceolate obtuse more or less retuse leaflets; racemes 2—4-flowered; flowers large, 12-17 mm long; calyx strigillose, with black hairs and subulate teeth, separated by wide sinuses; petals reddish-purple, pale at base; pod glabrous, com- pressed laterally, with long stipe (gynophore) within calyx, at first nearly straight, linear, in age semicircular, broader, black- or white-strigillose.
EcologySandy soil, gravel bars, in the mountains to about 1,000 meters.
