DescriptionMore or less pubescent, leaves broadly elliptic to cordate-ovate, obtuse, with winged petioles; spike dense; bracts acute, brownish, scarious-margined, corolla yellowish-white with triangular lobes; capsule circumscissile below tips of sepals, mostly 6-10-seeded, seeds reticulate.
EcologyWaste places, roadsides; introduced. Described from Europe.

Exceedingly variable. Circumpolar map indicates range of P. major in broadest sense. Occurs also in Galapagos Islands.
