DescriptionPlant with short caudex; stem single, erect, villous with often dark hairs; basal leaves villous, oblanceolate to spatulate; cauline leaves reduced; heads solitary; in- volucral bracts narrow, appressed, woolly-villous, with purplish to blackish cross- walls of hairs; ligules white, in age bluish-violet; pappus white or tawny; achenes more or less pubescent.
EcologySnow beds, meadows. Described from cultivated specimens grown from seeds from the Canadian Arctic.
