DescriptionLoosely caespitose, more or less matted, with erect or nearly erect shoots; basal leaves spatulate to linear-oblanceolate, mucronate, floccose-tomentose beneath, green and glabrous or thinly floccose above; cauline leaves linear, with flat, brown, scarious appendages; heads solitary; involucral bracts of pistillate heads broadly lanceolate and lanate at base when young, brown and scarious at tip, in age be- coming brownish, often darker in middle; those of staminate heads elliptic, obtuse or somewhat acute, green and lanate at base when young, brown and scarious at tip, darkening in age.
EcologyMountain slopes, to at least 1,750 meters.
