DescriptionUp to 50 cm tall, tufted, with numerous narrow leaves at base; panicle at first narrow, in mature state very diffuse, one-third to two-thirds as long as entire plant, lacking spikelets at base of harshly hispid, capillary branches; glumes 2—3 mm long, lanceolate-attenuate, scabrous on keel; lemma 1.2-1.7 mm long, awnless; anthers 0.4-0.7 mm long.
EcologyDry, open slopes, alluvial flats. Described from North America.

Common in southern half of range of interest (except in westernmost part). Forms with awned lemma occur.
