DescriptionCaespitose, with dry, whitish marcescent leaves at base; culms stiff, 2-5 dm tall; leaves 24 mm broad, flat, in age involute, harsh; panicle spikelike, stiff, thick, grayish-purple, in age whitish-brown; glumes scarious, scabrous, ovate-lanceolate, longer than lemma; lemma emarginate, dentate at apex, with coarse, geniculate, exserted awn from near base; callus hairs shorter than lemma.
EcologyRocks and cliffs, preferably on calcareous soil. Common in interior. In St. Elias Mountains, to at least 2,000 meters. Described from Mackenzie district and Arctic Sea.
