Description | Loosely caespitose, with short, creeping rootstocks, sometimes forming dense tufts; culms glabrous, decumbent at base, 30-70 cm tall; basal leaves setaceous; culm leaves often flat; panicle with divergent lower branches; first glume 1-nerved, second 3-nerved; lemmas usually awn-tipped, narrowly scarious-margined; anthers 2-3 mm long. | ||
Ecology | Moist and sandy places. Described from Europe. | ||
Taxonomy notes | Extremely variable. Circumpolar map indicates range of F. rubra in a broad sense. On the Alaska map, all varieties occurring within area of interest are in- cluded except subsp. aucta. |
