Description | Stoloniferous, with long runners; culms stiff, up to 80 cm tall; panicle erect; leaves 4-8 mm broad; spikelets 1.5-2.5 cm long, usually purplish; first glume 1- nerved, the second 3-nerved, both glabrous; lemma more or less pubescent, espe- cially at margin, with short awn 2-3 mm long; anthers about 4 mm long. |
Ecology | Meadows, dry grassy slopes, from lowlands and tundra up into mountains. In southern part of its range, hybrids with B. inermis occur. |
