| Description | Tufted, sometimes with short rhizomes; leaves 3—7 mm wide, glabrous, scabrous, or sparsely long-hairy above; spikes loose; spikelets 12—-20 mm long, 5-7-flowered, pale green or purplish; glumes 5-9 mm long, 3-5-ribbed, scabrous on ribs, acumi- nate or short-pointed, with narrow hyaline-scarious margins; lemmas 8-11 mm long, hairy especially in lower part, becoming more or less glabrous toward tip, awnless or with awn up to 7 mm long, joints of rachilla with spreading hairs; anthers 1-2 mm long. | ||
