DescriptionTufted; nodes of culms nearly always short-hairy; lower sheaths of leaves usually glabrous; leaves 2.5-6 mm wide, flat or inrolled, usually scaberulous; spikes rather dense; spikelets 12—20 mm long, 4—6-flowered, purple or greenish-purple; glumes 5-8 mm long, oblong or broadly oblanceolate, usually abruptly narrowed into short awn up to 3 mm long, 3-5-ribbed, glabrous, with hyaline-scarious margin wider near tip; lemmas 8-10 mm long, glabrous, with short awn 1.5-5 mm long; joints of rachilla strigose; anthers 1.5-2 mm long.
EcologyRiver bars and flats; dry, sandy banks of rivers, hillsides. In mountains to at least 1,000 meters. Described from the Aldan valley in eastern Siberia.
