DescriptionCaespitose; culms with old leaves at base; leaves light green, 2-3 mm broad; spikes in head 1-1.5 cm long, with few staminate flowers at base and numerous pistillate flowers at tip; bracts scalelike, the lowest slightly prolonged; scales acute, light reddish-brown, with hyaline margins nearly covering perigynia; perigynia ovate-lanceolate, wing-margined, serrulate, striate, with bidentate beak 2 mm long.
EcologyMeadows, woods. Described from the Rocky Mountains.
