DescriptionRhizome coarse, scaly, brown or reddish-brown, cordlike; culms thick, smooth, rounded; leaves 45 mm wide, as long as culm, or somewhat shorter; spikes stiff, erect, the upper sessile, the lower short—peduncled the apical clublike, long, stami- nate, the lateral plstlllate often staminate at tip; bracts leaflike, extendlng beyond spikes; scales brown or blackish with pale midvein; perigynia ]ight-colored, nerve- less, with minute, entire beak; 2 stigmas.
EcologyShallow water, marshes, along rivers. Described from Lapland.
