DescriptionLoosely caespitose; culms with dark, purplish-red sheaths at base, leaves in lower third; leaves light green, soft; spikes 3—4 of equal size, short, compressed; scales narrowly ovate, shorter than perigynia; perigynia bluish-green when young, later olive-brown, lighter-colored than scales, ellipsoid, with short beak.
EcologyMoist places in lowland and subalpine zones. Described from northwest Canada, 54-64° N.
