DescriptionPlant grayish-green, with thin, subterranean runners; culm scabrous, with pur- plish, bladeless sheaths at base; leaves 2-3 mm wide, shorter than culm; spikes 3—4, sessile, the lower remote, the apical staminate, with pistillate flowers above, or entirely staminate, the lateral pistillate; scales ovate, acute, dark brown with green midvein, shorter than perigynia, or as long; perigynia grayish-green, elliptical, glabrous in margin, indistinctly nerved.
