DescriptionLoosely caespitose, with long, reddish-brown, subterranean runners; culms thin, longer than leaves, with reddish sheaths at base; leaves 1-1.5 mm wide; spikes 2-3, the apical staminate, linear, the lateral pistillate, sessile, broad; lower bract scale- like with apical awn; scales about as long as perigynia, ovate, acute, rust-brown, with prominent lighter center, scarious-margined; perigynia ovate to oval-elongate, nerve- less, rust-colored, evenly tapering into short, cylindrical beak.
EcologyDry, sandy places. C. supina described from Europe, subsp. spaniocarpa from Greenland.
