DescriptionCaespitose; roots with yellowish tomentum; culms acutely angled above; leaves about 3 mm broad, pale green, shorter than culm; lowest bract foliaceous, usually exceeding inflorescence; terminal spike mostly staminate, the lateral 2-4 pistillate, short, drooping, on capillary peduncles; scales castaneous to stramineous, long- acuminate, much longer but narrower than the perigynia, falling off in age; peri- gynia 4 mm long, broadly ovate, pale, persistent, longer than scales.
EcologyPeaty soil. C. magellanica described from Magellan Sound, subsp. irrigua from northern Sweden.
