DescriptionCaespitose; culm glabrous, nodding above, with conspicuous dried-up leaves at base; leaves usually recurved, much shorter than culm, canaliculate at base, with recurved, light-brown sheaths; lowest bract with long sheath and short blade; termi- nal spike drooping, with pistillate flowers above, the lateral 2-3 pistillate; scales ovate, somewhat acute, dark reddish-brown with lighter midvein, scarious-mar- gined; perigynia longer than scales, narrowly lanceolate, purplish-black above, strongly ciliate on margins of prolonged, bidentate apex.
