DescriptionDensely caespitose; culms filiform, smooth; leaves shorter than culms, flat, 1-2 mm wide; apical spike small, staminate, pale, the lateral 2-4, drooping, on capillary peduncles; scales pale, blunt or short-tipped, falling off in age; perigynia light brown, lance-ovoid to fusiform, tapering to conical beak.
EcologyMoist or dry places. Described from Sweden.

The typlcal plant is low-growing, below 20 cm. For the area concerned, the taller var. major Drej. [var. elongata Olney, subsp. chlorostachys (Stev.) Love & Love & Raymond] is common and occupies the same range.
