DescriptionYellowish-green, with long, thick, dark, subterranean runners; culm coarse, sharply angled, with long, purplish-black sheaths at base; leaves 4-10 mm wide; upper 1-3 spikes staminate, clublike to lanceolate, the lower 2-5 pistillate, ascend- ing, more or less peduncled; scales ovate-lancolate, aristate; perigynia ovate to lanceolate, glabrous, strongly ribbed, green, tapering to slender beak; beak with slender, often outward-curved teeth.
EcologyWet meadows. Described from arctic America.
