| |||
Family | Orchidaceae — APG family: Orchidaceae
Description | Stems from long, slender rootstock, with 2 leaves at about the middle and 2-3 clasping sheaths at base; flowers subtended by foliaceous bract, solitary, blotched with purple; lateral petals ovate, tapering to blunt apex; lip as long as the elliptical dorsal sepal, or shorter.
Ecology | Meadows, woods. Described from eastern Siberia.
Taxonomy notes | The color of the flower is highly variable, on the coast, where the population is considered to be an introgression between subsp. guttatum and subsp. Yatabeanum. Flowers can be nearly white, pinkish, blotched with greenish-purple, or purple; collection localities of specimens thus flowered are marked with open circles on the Alaskan map. Broken line on maps indicates range of forms more or less interme- diate between subsp. guttatum and subsp. Yatabeanum. (See color section.) |
