DescriptionProstrate shrub, with dark, trailing branches; leaves dark green and shiny above, pale bluish-green below, elliptic to obovate, rounded or somewhat acute in apex, glabrous, entire in the margin or essentially so; catkins erect on leafy peduncles; bracts obovate, purplish to blackish toward tip, long-haired; capsules often reddish, pubescent, or [f. leiocarpa (Anderss.) Fern. (S. arctica subsp. groenlandica var. leiocarpa Anderss.)] glabrous, with styles 1-1.5 mm long; gland short and broad, about half as long as pedicels.
EcologyWet places on tundra and in mountains. Described from eastern and western Greenland.
