DescriptionShrub 1-2 meters tall; young twigs densely pubescent; leaves glabrous, glandular, serrate in lower part, small in arctic specimens, obovate-lanceolate to ovate and nearly as broad as long, acute, yellowish-green beneath; stipules persistent, long and narrow, glandular along entire margin; catkins sessile, thick, stiff, appearing before leaves; capsules glabrous, with long styles; stamens 2; filaments glabrous.
EcologyWet places, heaths, riverbanks, both on tundra and in mountains, to at least 1,700 meters in the southern Yukon.
