DescriptionAnnual; plant more or less reddish (in arctic dwarf specimens, entirely red), glabrous; stem from a few mm up to (in southern localities) 15 cm long, often branched; leaves elliptic to ovate, blunt; flowers single or in small heads; calyx greenish-white with 3, occasionally 4, lobes; stamens as many as lobes.
EcologyWet places with bare earth, snow beds, in McKinley Park to at least 1,300 meters.
