DescriptionStems up to 35 cm tall, usually shorter, from stout rootstock; leaves reniform, long-petiolated, basal; 2 outer sepals broad and flat, the 2 inner appressed, boat- shaped, about half as broad; stamens 6; fruit with red wing about as broad as body.
EcologyWet places, snow beds, in mountains and on tundra, in the Yukon to over 2,000 meters, in the Brooks Range to over 1,000 meters. Described from Lapland, Wallis (Switzerland).
UsesThe leaves, but not the root, can be eaten raw.
