Description | Densely tufted, with basal runners, covered with withered leaves at base; stems several, straight, glabrous; leaves light green, capillary, glabrous or more or less scabrous in margin, acuminate; inflorescence open, 1-3-flowered; bracts narrowly lanceolate, scarious-margined; sepals ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acute, violet-mar- gined; petals longer than sepals; capsule somewhat longer than sepals. | ||
Ecology | Dry, sandy hillsides. Described from Siberia. | ||
Taxonomy notes | Alaskan specimens belong to subsp. capillaris; subsp. americana Maguire occurs south of the glaciation in western North America (broken line on circumpolar map). The closely related A. tschuktschorum Regel, with shorter leaves, occurs in eastern- most Asia. |
