DescriptionStem very thin and brittle at base, from dark-brown tuber buried deep in soil, with 1-3 scales below; leaves ternate, the segments again 3—4-cleft, ultimate seg- ments blunt; inflorescence dense, few-flowered; flowers horizontal or sometimes vertical, bluish-violet; spur slightly bent.
EcologyHeaths, meadows, snow beds, moist spruce forests, in the mountains to at least 1,400 meters. Described from the Altai Mountains.

White-flowered specimens (var. albiflora Pors.) occur, as well as specimens with bluish-white flowers (in the Ogilvie Mountains). Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of the closely related C. Emanuéli C.A.M.
