DescriptionMatted; stem much branched, densely covered with opposite leaves in 4 rows; leaves oblong to obovate to broadly obovate, keeled, glabrous, ciliate with few coarse cilia; flowers sessile or nearly so; calyx lobes ovate, blunt, ciliated; petals reddish-violet, obovate, clawed, 2-2% times as long as calyx lobes; pedicels elon- gated in fruit; follicles with long style.
EcologyWet, stony slopes, heaths, ridges, rock crevices, solifluction soil; in the mountains to at least 2,160 meters in McKinley Park. Described from Spitzbergen, Lapland, Switzerland, the Pyrenees.
