Description | Plant with long, dark-brown rootstock; basal leaves flabellate, dentate, abruptly contracted into long petiole, glabrous or somewhat pubescent with brownish septate hairs; flowering stem leafless, mostly glabrous at base, pubescent with capitate glands above; inflorescence with lanceolate bracts; calyx lobes reflexed, mostly purplish; petals oblong to orbicular, white or reddish, with 2 yellowish or greenish spots; follicles sometimes 3—4. | ||
Ecology | Moist places, snow beds, in the mountains to at least 1,235 meters. Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of subsp. Lyallii. | ||
