DescriptionSimilar to subsp. arcticus, but flowers larger; leaves mostly 3-lobed, sometimes nearly entire, orbicular; hypantium pubescent, with yellow glands.

Forms hybrid swarms with subsp. arcticus and subsp. acaulis where ranges overlap (pure in the Aleutian Islands, where the other subspecies are lacking). Hybrids with R. spectabilis also occur (R. alaskensis Bailey).
