DescriptionAcaulescent; rootstock comparatively thick, ascending, lacking stolons; leaves cordate-orbicular to reniform, crenate-serrulate, glabrous on both sides or somewhat pubescent on veins beneath; petals beardless, white with purple stripes; both cleistogamous and normal flowers occur.
EcologyMoist woods, swamps. V. renifolia described from New York State and New Hampshire, var. Brainerdii from Vermont, Ottawa, and Prince Edward Island.
