DescriptionStout; stems single or few together, from tuberous-thickened and chambered roots; leaves 1-3-pinnate; leaflets lanceolate-ovate to oblong, serrate; involucral bracts mostly lacking; umbels several; rays 12-20, 2-6 cm long; pedicels 3-8 mm long; fruit ovate to orbicular.
EcologyMarshes, along streams; the northernmost localities are from hot springs. De- scribed from northwest north America.
UsesThe roots contain cicutotoxin, and are deadly poisonous.
