DescriptionGlabrous; stem single, reddish-violet at base, from thick root; leaves thick, biter- nate; leaflets ovate, coarsely toothed; stem leaves reduced, with long, often violet sheaths; rays of umbel 7-11; petals white or pinkish; fruit with 3 winged ribs on back, and broad intervals.
EcologySeashores. L. scoticum described from England and Sweden. Broken line on cir- cumpolar map indicates range of subsp. scoticum.
UsesThe young stems and leaves are eaten raw or boiled by the natives.
