DescriptionLoosely, sometimes very densely, tufted, forming cushions; leaves obovate to oblong-oblanceolate, thick, lustrous, yellowish-green, 1-nerved; sepals yellowish- green, corolla 5-lobed, white.
EcologyRocks and gravel in the mountains, to at least 1,500 meters. D. lapponica de- scribed from Lapland, subsp. obovata from Sakhalin.

Specimens with rose-colored corolla (var. rosea Hult.) found at Hatcher Pass, north of Anchorage. Broken line on circumpolar map indicates range of subsp. lappénica.
