Description | Stems glabrous, from filiform, stoloniferous rhizome; leaves 3-veined, broadly ovate or obovate, obtuse, short-mucronate, 4 in a whorl, the lower smaller than the upper; peduncles 1-3, 2-3-flowered, from uppermost whorl; calyx lobes ovate- lanceolate; corolla greenish-white with acute lobes; fruit with hooked bristles. | ||

Taxonomy notes | In the Cascades of Oregon and Washington, var. oreganum (Britt.) Piper (G. oreganum Britt.) occurs; its range is indicated by broken line on circumpolar map. Very closely related to the European G. scabrum L. |
