DescriptionErect shrub, up to 2 meters tall, with essentially glabrous twigs; leaves elliptic to elliptic-ovate, entire or obscurely toothed, glabrous above, glabrous or very sparsely pubescent beneath; racemes short, subsessile, few-flowered; corolla pink and white, campanulate, short and broad, nearly as wide as long, pubescent within; fruit berry- like, white, subglobose to elliptic.
EcologyWoods, thickets. S. albus described from “Pennsylvania,” subsp. laevigatus from cultivated specimens grown from seeds collected west of the Rocky Mountains.
