DescriptionStraggling to ascending shrub; branches quadrangular, glabrous; leaves ascend- ing, obovate, to elliptic-oblong, acuminate or acute, paler beneath; involucre of 4 green to dark-purple bracts; flowers in pairs; corolla glandular-cylindric, yellow, sometimes tinged with red; berries purplish-black, about 1 cm thick, bitter.
EcologyWoods. Described from “wooded country between 54° and 64° lat.”
