Description | Stems from creeping rhizome, low and 1-headed in specimens from exposed places, taller and branched in less exposed or more southern habitats; leaves ob- lanceolate to broadly lanceolate, nearly entire or toothed, glabrous, scabrous in margin, the upper sessile, slightly clasping; heads 1 to several; involucral bracts broadly lanceolate, leafy, ciliate in margin, light-colored and chartaceous at base, not markedly imbricate; ligules purple to violet; pappus tawny. | ||
